The Sunday Fish Market Every Sunday, the waterfront of Marsaxlokk transforms into one of the Mediterranean's great open-air markets.
Fishermen sell their catch straight from the colourful luzzu boats, swordfish, lampuki, octopus, and red mullet laid out on ice in the morning sun.
The Luzzu The painted fishing boats of Marsaxlokk are icons of Malta. Each one carries the Eye of Osiris on its bow, an ancient tradition that protects the fishermen at sea.

The grilled lampuki (dolphin fish) is legendary between September and December. Outside lampuki season, the swordfish steaks are superb.
Beyond the Market Walk east along the coast to St Peter's Pool, a natural swimming hole carved from the limestone cliffs. It's one of Malta's best swimming spots, and perfectly empty on a Sunday morning when everyone else is at the market.
